Hidden Hurts

Personal: I have worked on this painting on and off for 3 years, starting in the beginning of 2020...

Initially set in an outdoor scene, the piece was transformed into an indoor setting after the lockdowns began.

This shift mirrored my own journey inward, representing an intense period of inner work and self-discovery that followed.. I had no idea what was coming, but we went on that journey together.

Whilst working on this painting my familiar, my dear cat, Dyke passed away. In my grief I asked Dyke to talk to me through tarot and these are the cards painted on this painting. These tarot cards, along with Dyke's cherished pendulum, represent the search in dealing with loss, a bridge between the physical and spiritual worlds. 

Tragically, the painting also became a vessel for my grief after the unexpected passing of my dad.

it provided solace and a means to process overwhelming emotions... 

The painting is filled with personal symbolism, each element holds a unique significance, and together, they narrate a story of resilience, connection, and transformation. While the burning heart and the tarot cards were direct responses to grief, they also represent a broader process of purification and enlightenment. And it helped me in a way I did not foresee coming..
