Phantasmagoria

This painting was the first completed in Dark Night of the Soul.

It feels like the threshold, the moment of self-confrontation before the journey truly begins.

A whisper from the unconscious, something known but not yet spoken.

Two figures, mirror images yet not quite the same, drift through the liminal space of the forest. One looks forward, the other back - one facing the known, the other the unseen. They share the same veil, as if wrapped in the same story, the same fate. Bound together, yet separate, they hold hands—a tether between past and present, between what was and what might be.

Flowers bloom from their fingertips, cascading over their own remains. The past does not simply vanish; it feeds what comes next. There is no escaping who we have been - only the choice to meet our own history with open hands.

This was always where the journey had to begin. A reckoning. An introspection. The self in conversation with its own history - the part that longs to move forward and the part still haunted by what was.

This painting does not demand an answer, only that we stand in the quiet between two selves, listening.
